ArabFinance: Algebra Ventures, Egypt’s leading venture capital fund, announced that Laila Hassan and Omar Khashaba will be joining its second, $90 million fund as General Partners, the company said in an email press release.

Hassan will join Algebra later this year from 500 Startups, where she had played a key role in executing follow-on strategy for the global VC firm’s MENA-focused fund.

Khashaba, meanwhile, joined Algebra in 2018, and was recently promoted to the role of the principal in the firm’s first fund.

The new partners collectively bring to Algebra multi-stage investment experience, a strong regional network and portfolio support expertise.

“As we launch our $90M second fund, doubling down on Egypt, I’m confident we have the best team to lead Algebra forward,” Karim Hussein, Managing Partner at Algebra Ventures, commented.

Launched in 2016, Algebra Ventures is an Egypt-based venture capital fund that invests in early-stage technology companies in Egypt and the MENA region who are changing the way we live and do business.

The company has invested in 21 transformative technology companies in Egypt & MENA, including Yodawy, Trella, Elmenus, Brimore, and Halan.
